“Quickie” by the Gabriel Mervine Quartet showcases the talents of four of the most versatile musicians in the Denver music scene. Mervine composed the tight-knit groove tune in 10 minutes, hence its title. Right out of the gate, the group possesses unmatched musical chemistry as Mervine (trumpet), Alex Heffron (guitar) and Tom Amend (organ) introduce the track with finely tuned harmonies accentuated by tasteful hits by Alejandro Castano on drums. Each member passes the baton seamlessly as they take a ride during the solo sections highlighting their individual talents. Both the whole and each independent part highlight champion musicality that’s been refined at a weekly residency at Denver’s Spangalang Brewery. This is the first of several tracks to be released on Color Red throughout 2019.
